Edward Ayo (or Ed A) was born in 1975 in Arusha region, Tanzania. He is married to Diana and they have a daughter and a son.

He studied at Mount Meru Tour Guide College and started as head housekeeper at Grumeti Reserves in 2000. As his family responsibilities increased, however, so did his ambition. After working as a driver and waiter, he started climbing up the tourism ladder and finally, in 2005, he could cut his teeth as a guide. Later he joined Singita Grumeti, enrolled in the in-house guide training program and qualified in the same year. His popularity with guests is evident as he is often requested by name.
