Field Guide
Kruger National Park

Mike Kirby

Having grown up in South Africa and Botswana Mike has has been fascinated by nature for as long as he can remember.

He decided, during his school days, that he would one day become a field guide and aspired to work in beautiful, remote areas that Africa has to offer.

Mike completed his formal education at the University of Pretoria, and after completing a business degree, started training as a field guide.

During this time he fell in love with walking and decided to take the trails guide career route. He gained hours in the Pafuri region of Kruger and Mashatu in Botswana, after which he did walking trails in the far north from 2015 onwards.

Since leaving the corporate world, each day Mike has come to realise how lucky he is to live the life that he does, and he knows with no hesitation that living in these beautiful remote wilderness areas is how he wants to live out the rest of his days. He finds it unbelievably rewarding to have the ability to change people’s lives out in the wilderness every couple of days, and for him that is the highlight of the job!

He is extremely excited to have joined the Singita family and looks forward to what the future brings!
