Matthew Durell

Ever since he can remember, Matt has had a passion for the wilderness and wildlife, and his journey started as a youngster during family holidays to the Kruger National Park. Born and raised in Johannesburg, Matt first studied marketing at university before taking some time off to travel and work on yachts.

Following this with a few years working in retail, he was finally ready for a big life change, which led to him being qualified as a safari guide and spending five years honing his skills while guiding in KwaZulu-Natal. His dream was to live and work in the Greater Kruger National Park, so when the opportunity arose, he jumped at the chance to join Singita.

Matt has a special interest in wildlife photography and videography, and strives to give guests a holistic safari experience – always expanding their appreciation and knowledge of the natural world. His work is his passion, and when he isn’t guiding, you’ll probably find him embarking on an African safari in a beautiful location. He enjoys keeping fit, fishing and spending time with his family.
