Field Guide
Sabi Sand
Luke Abbot
Luke's story began in the hills of Nelspruit, where the calls of the hornbill formed the soundtrack to his childhood. With the Kruger National Park practically next door and a family full of nature lovers, it didn’t take long for him to fall in love with the bush.
By the time he was 21, Luke was guiding walking safaris in Mozambique – having swapped textbooks for tracks in the sand. Since then, he’s explored South Africa, guiding in the wild corners of the North West, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga. He even spent time in Rwanda, helping train local field guides before moving onto the next adventure.
Luke is a Professional Field Guide with a National Specialty in South African birds. He’s quick to ID a call and even quicker to share a fact or two. And because he never stops learning, he’s now dipping into astronomy too. Whether he’s out tracking lions or stargazing in the middle of the bush, Luke brings energy, curiosity, and humour to every encounter.
