A meeting of minds – Industrie Africa x Singita

Much of the artistry we encounter today either draws or derives its origins from Africa. Long before history was written, as early as around 300,000 years ago, the first humans traversed Africa’s vast, varied terrain – observing, learning, and sharing their experiences through one form of communication or another, until they became stories.

Though the passing down of knowledge and traditions endures, the way we tell stories has evolved, and our collective appetite for them has grown.

Today, African creatives walk the line between tradition and innovation with intention. Galvanised by pride for their heritage and home, they’re expanding global perceptions around what design and aesthetics from across the continent look like. One creative enterprise embodying Africa’s ongoing cultural evolution is Industrie Africa.

Founded in 2018 to redefine narratives around Africa’s diverse cultural landscape, Industrie Africa has since grown into a thriving online retail destination, elevating some of the most exciting voices and creators in contemporary African fashion to a global audience.

Where we come from influences what we create, and where we are now shapes how we create it. We invited Industrie Africa to Singita Kilima and Milele, to capture and convey the timeless tradition of storytelling through a curated selection of pieces by 30 pan-African fashion and jewellery designers.

In the Serengeti, inspiration is never far away. Our hope was that here, immersed in an endless wilderness, the team would find the conditions in which creativity swells and the spark that propels it into something tangible. “This partnership between Singita and Industrie Africa represents more than just a collision of visual beauty. It represents a meeting of minds and two brands whose values converge. Singita and Industrie Africa share continental pride and understand the importance of regional preservation. We also understand the importance of emotional and local connection,” says Nisha Kanabar, Industrie Africa's founder.

Framed by creative director and stylist Sunny Dolat’s dynamic vision for Africa and captured by photographer Aart Verrips’ immaculate eye, Origin Stories was born to encourage curiosity and create a portal through which the world can experience and explore Africa as a source of creativity – its breadth of culture and its depth as the origin of humankind.
