Life lessons from nature to take into 2025

There's an innate wisdom in nature that guides us, showing us how to be more present, to travel more lightly. The end of a year is an apt time to reflect on how we can embrace its lessons on a journey to living more fully.
The art of well-being is the sum of many parts, and our wellness philosophy embraces the concept of ‘wholeness’. We believe that each moment offers an opportunity to reconnect with both the magnitude and simplicity of nature.
Slowing down
When we slow down and let our senses guide us, we discover the wisdom of wild places. Bernard Hosea, a Field Guide at Singita Grumeti, says he sees the transformation that happens when guests are able to connect with a world so much bigger than them.
He says, “That brings a change to most people. When they come to visit us in Africa, in protected areas like this, it gives them such a good moment of meditation, just learning from Mother Nature."
Letting go
Dorine Khambi, Assistant Head Wellness Therapist at Singita Grumeti, says it's easier for people to relax in such beautiful settings, as nature does most of the work. In addition, every treatment is enhanced by some aspect of the great outdoors – whether it's a space under the shade of trees, a massage overlooking the plains, or a beauty ritual using natural ingredients from the area.
"Our goal is to make guests feel more comfortable, relaxed, connected, and present at this place," she says.
Tuning in
The pace of nature dictates each day, with each season offering a unique rhythm. We witness this in the first rains quenching the dry earth over the Malilangwe Reserve in Zimbabwe, the migratory birds returning to Singita Kruger National Park in springtime, and the mega-herds of wildebeest pushing north from the Mara River during the July migration.
As with the seasons, each day follows its own arc. Days begin and end with spectacular sunrises and sunsets, which are celebrated over coffee on a game drive or during a sundowner stop. Tuning into these rhythms can still the mind and give an abiding sense of peace.
Permission to rest
Nature emphasises the importance of rest – lions for example have perfected this art, sleeping up to 20 hours daily in the shade to conserve energy, while leopards retreat to the branches in the heat of the day.
Being relaxed allows for greater awareness, and as Singita's Head of Wellness Renee Rosettenstein explains, immersing ourselves in the sounds and sights of nature heightens our connection to our surroundings and deepens our relationship with the Earth.
“Becoming more grounded is healing in a sense, it's connecting with the earth's energy, which is calming and gentle. The more connected moments we have, the happier and more caring we will be,” she says.
As we say goodbye to 2024, may we take our cues from nature to live in a way that is nurturing to ourselves and the world around us. We'd like to thank our team, guests and friends of Singita for their support and wish everyone a healthy, fulfilling 2025.
