Surrounded by the wide-open spaces of the Serengeti’s breathtaking savannahs, the new Singita Sabora Tented Camp provides the kind of sanctuary where one can breathe easy again, finally unwinding as moments flow into days that comfort, restore and inspire.

Perfect for travellers who long for an authentic African safari infused with the continent’s contemporary energy and enveloped in unrivalled levels of comfort, Sabora charts a visionary new course for luxury adventures under canvas. Taking their cue from the earthy colour palette of this iconic wilderness, Cécile & Boyd – Singita’s longtime design partners – mindfully created interiors characterised by layers of sophisticated comfort, a rich combination of textures and the essence of forward-thinking and functional aesthetics.

Celebrating Africa’s cultural heritage, creativity and craftsmanship, the work of talented local artisans feature throughout the camp and is perfectly complemented by a pared-back interpretation of traditional safari style. It sets the tone for a leading-edge expression of life under canvas that is light, modern and relaxed; elegant, functional and profoundly restorative.

Echoing the soothing tones of grasslands and plains outside, shades of muted taupe, tan and beige blend in beautifully with brown leather, thick sand-coloured stitching, blonde oak, blackened steel and gleaming bronze. The mindfully layered décor elements extend to the subtle use of exquisite tailoring, tactile fabrics and handcrafted details, with mesh, canvas and woven elements striking the perfect balance between laidback luxury and chic utility.

Making the most of the easy flow between the in- and outdoor spaces of the suites, Sally Tsiliyiannis and her team at GAPP Architects created guest suites that feature canvas walls with sections of full-length glazing, allowing for uninterrupted views of Sabora’s waterholes, where game regularly gather to drink.

Inviting continuous rest and the freedom to experience both the thrill and the peace of living on the edge of the bush, each suite includes a private meditation deck for practising yoga and mindfulness, an outdoor sala with daybeds for leisurely reading or simply marvelling at game passing by, a private fitness area, and a lifestyle unit with a perfectly curated in-room pantry and dining space.

The nine self-contained suites are now set even closer to the ground, while resting lightly upon it – in alignment with Singita’s enduring commitment to sustainability. Minimal impact on the landscape and the use of renewable energy and eco-friendly materials are givens, but careful thought was also given to ensure that cutting-edge technology keeps the camp’s footprint as light as possible. This includes the use of cross ventilation, energy-efficient lighting and an outer canvas layer to keeps tents shaded and cool.

Many of the more subtle sustainability features also enhance the guest experience – reduced exterior lighting allows for more opportunities to truly appreciate the wonder of Africa’s starlit night skies, and the sense of spaciousness that underpins a stay at Sabora extends to the generous ceilings that help to circulate air. An abundance of natural light illuminates the cleverly designed variation of spaces created by the imaginative placement of tent walls.

Offering a very real and heightened experience that is inherently African and captures the unmistakable spirit of classic East African adventures, Singita Sabora Tented Camp’s modern interpretation of a safari under canvas is the ultimate celebration of its incomparable setting and the restorative power of connecting intimately with nature.

Singita Sabora Tented Camp is set in 350,000 acres of protected wilderness in Singita Grumeti, which provides guests with a front-row seat to some of the most prized game viewing on the continent – including the Great Migration.
