Festive Food: Sharing the Spirit of the Season
Platters piled high with family favourites, the fizz and clink of bottles being popped, and the heady aroma of sugar and spice hanging in the air – the festive season is in full swing. Like most families, Singita celebrates it with mouthwatering food that honours local ingredients and traditional recipes, and creates memorable mealtimes.
Extraordinary wildlife sightings and vivid landscapes take centre stage on any Singita safari, and rightfully so, but the unique gourmet experiences at the lodges and camps play a starring role too. Each and every plate is an expression of our commitment to create an outstanding food offering that perfectly complements the exquisite surroundings in which guests find themselves. At this time of year, the sense of generosity and sharing is echoed in an abundance of lovingly crafted dishes that make guests feel at home on African soil, as well as enfolded in the warmth and kindness of its people.
While the menus at each of Singita’s 15 lodges and camps change daily and evolve with the seasons, many of the recipes most loved by our guests can be found in our specialist safari cookbook – Singita: Our Food Journey. Comprising 274 glossy pages, complete with enticing photographs, the book brings together traditional and more contemporary African-inspired recipes from Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Woven throughout are stories about the people behind the recipes; the chefs and suppliers who bring the wilderness to life on each plate.
The profits generated through its sale go to supporting the Singita Community Culinary School in South Africa and the Singita Serengeti School of Cooking in Tanzania. These incredibly successful community partnership projects help to develop the next generation of Singita chefs from the communities surrounding Singita Kruger National Park and Singita Grumeti, fulfilling a local need for career opportunities as well as a broader need for the hospitality industry as a whole in these countries.
