Singita Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park | August 2012

The cheetah coalitions have once again been visiting us; this time staying for longer periods of time within the concession. Visiting very similar locations and utilizing the open terrain to their advantage, however we have all been waiting in anticipation for them to possibly settle in the area and start marking their territory. However, the cheetahs have once again proven that they only move through the areas once the prides of lion are further north or west of the central basin where they spend most of their time. Between the ages of 9 and 18 years is the time in which elephants experience their adolescence. This is the stage at which they begin to establish their own identity for themselves within the larger herds. The males will begin to spend less time with their mother, straying off to interact with fellow young bulls. During adolescence, the bulls learn social guidance that will prepare them for adulthood. These include lessons on his social standing within another group of bulls as well as sexual etiquette around females on heat.
