Hide and seek

Sabi Sand | September 2019

One morning the lodge organized a breakfast stop for us the Bird Hide pan. On our way Guy, one of the Ebony Lodge managers, called me on the radio to say that a group of elephants were coming to drink. I continued making my way there so that we could see them as well but, alas ,only three were left when we arrived.

But only two minutes later a second group arrived from the eastern side and another from the south east and south west! It was so cool to see all the herds coming from difference directions. I have seen breeding herds of elephants at the same dam but not so many at once. They weren’t bothered with our presence and just kept on arriving, drinking and spraying water on themselves.

It was one of my guests’ birthday and she had a fantastic celebration with about 80 to 90 elephants attending her birthday breakfast!
After that a troop of baboons also came to drink – all my favourite animals together!
