Lodge Details

Without a doubt this is the most authentic “roughing-it in great style” experience the Serengeti has to offer. A private use camp on the plains of the Serengeti, it is a return to the simplicity and authenticity of safari life but with a thoroughly modern sensibility and freshness about it. It’s camping but without having to forfeit the creature comforts or attentive service that are intrinsic to a Singita experience. Singita Explore is particularly appealing to those in search of an opportunity to connect up-close with the earth and wildlife in a way they have never done before. With a private guide, chef, camp host and camp staff, activities can be arranged on a whim, game drives may be as long or as short as you choose and intimate experiences await.

Spanning over 350,000 acres of untouched wilderness, Singita Grumeti is located in northern Tanzania, forming part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem. Singita Explore is ideally positioned on the renowned migratory route traversed annually by more than a million wildebeest.

Key species you are likely to see

During your camping experience with Singita Explore, you are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife, including cheetah, bearded wildebeest, bat eared fox, black rhino, Maasai giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo and leopard.

When is the peak time to see the wildebeest migration?

There is no real beginning or end to the wildebeest’s constant search for food and water. The only beginning is when calves are born – almost 400,000 wildebeest calves are born during a 6-week period usually between late January and mid-March. The migration path varies from year to year depending on weather and other environmental factors.

What time of year can we see the wildebeest migration and in which area?

It's difficult to predict exactly where the migrating wildebeest will be in a given month because movements depend so much on weather patterns. But generally over the year the animals move from the wet southern and eastern plains of the Serengeti from November to March and to the dryer north of the Serengeti National Park, both north and south of the Mara River, from the end of May through October.

Temperatures & Climate

Seasons Dictate Comfort - Comfort Dictates Clothing

Best time to go on safari

East Africa is equatorial so the climate is fairly constant and it is a year-round destination. Tanzania has a light rain season from November to March. This period is known as the ‘short rains’, often no more than a quick downpour each day, followed by clear sunshine. From December to March the weather becomes increasingly warmer with the ‘long rains’ occurring between April and May.
