The Great Migration at Singita Sabora Tented Camp

The Great Migration at Singita Sabora Tented Camp

One of the wonderful benefits of being in the path of the annual migration through the Serengeti is getting to observe this natural phenomenon at close range. This was especially true for our guests at Singita Sabora Tented Camp in Singita Grumeti a few weeks ago, when the herds of zebra and wildebeest joined them for lunch! These unexpected visitors were photographed by lodge manager, Wilson Owino, grazing quietly on the doorstep of the intimate, 1920s-style explorer’s camp. These beautiful shots illustrate the truly immersive safari experience at Singita, with the added thrill of knowing there isn’t much separating the comfort inside from the elements and wildlife outside.

Stripes Galore

October 06, 2011 - Singita Grumeti,Wildlife

The dam on the plains in front of Singita Sasakwa Lodge was a hive of activity before the rains started in earnest.  Animals trek for miles to reach the waterhole, which is one of the few that offers a good field of view. In particular there have been huge herds of zebra coming in to drink, often wading deep into the water. From around 09h00 through to 17h00 it is always busy.  Sometimes there are smaller herds of impala joining the zebra and often the Butamtam lion pride is found positioned close to the waterhole in the hopes of making a kill.

This striking black and white photography was taken by Lee Bennett, Head Guide at Singita Grumeti Reserves.  To follow wildlife updates from Grumeti Reserves, refer to the monthly Guides’ Diaries posted on Singita’s website.

A must for any bucket list

September 10, 2010 - Experience,Singita,Singita Grumeti,Wildlife

The Great Migration, which makes its way through the Singita Grumeti Reserves, has to be one of the top 10 awe-inspiring natural phenomenons. The fact that two million wildebeest and zebra make this same journey on an annual basis is mind-blowing. It is definitely something that should be experienced at least once in a person’s lifetime.

This year from the 1st of September until the 30th of November, guests at Singita will be able to fly into the northern Serengeti, where the migration is at its densest during these months, and be guaranteed exceptional viewings. Accompanied by one of our knowledgeable Singita Grumeti Reserve Guides and a delectable Singita lunch, the day-excursion is conducted in true Singita style.
