September 09, 2012 - Awards

The results have been announced!

After hundreds of trips and memorable experiences this year, Condé Nast travellers have entered their votes and the verdict is in:  Singita Grumeti ranks #1 and Singita Sabi Sand #9 in the Middle East, Africa and India Ocean.

Not only that, but we are thrilled to announce that Condé Nast Traveller (UK) readers are convinced that Singita Grumeti is worthy of the #2 spot overall in the world in all categories, second only to the country of Italy.  So effectively the #1 hotel in the world.

What a year and a great follow-on to the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards in July when Singita Grumeti was voted #1 in the world overall by T+L readers.

Keeping Balance

July 18, 2012 - Awards,Conservation,Sustainable Conservation

The results of the US Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2012 readers’ survey were announced recently and brought to light questions about how Singita is doing business differently.  Winning these reputable awards is a highly significant achievement for a relatively small safari company based in South Africa.

Luke Bailes, CEO and founder of Singita, reflected on the approach that Singita takes and how the business is built on a model of time and effort.  We captured some of those meaningful reflections on video.

“There is a balance between the way in which we manage nature and the sense of urgency needed to protect nature.  When we manage the land, we recognize that we need to be delicate and sensitive, moving with the long-term and slow rhythms of the wild while at the same time being intentional, with a sense of urgency to save the environment quickly.”

The results of the US Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2012 readers’ survey have just been announced, and for the second consecutive year Singita Grumeti has been rated best hotel in the world in the Top 100 Hotels Overall category. But it doesn’t end there. Singita Kruger National Park, including Lebombo and Sweni lodges, has moved up to take seventh position in the top 10. To round it off Singita Sabi Sand rated 10th giving a prominent Singita presence in the highly contested top 10 line-up this year.

We are thrilled and honoured especially considering that Singita is a relatively small company that started with a humble beginning 19 years ago with a single lodge – Singita Ebony.  Built on a tract of family owned land in what is now the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Singita’s vision was to share a unique part of Africa in a manner which was highly respectful of the natural environment but at the same time introducing a new style of luxury-safari.  By the end of this year we’ll be operating a total of 12 lodges in five destinations in three countries.

‘People feel privileged to stay in unpopulated, untouched wilderness areas and they choose to stay with us because our lodges have a reputation for being rare and authentic, while embodying a philosophy of sensitivity,’ comments Singita’s CEO and Founder, Luke Bailes. Singita offers something personal that resonates with today’s discerning, environmentally enlightened traveller who is seeking out meaningful, life-changing experiences.

Today Singita is responsible for over half a million acres of land in Africa and has initiated numerous successful community development projects that are making a tangible difference to the lives of the many people living and working in and around its lodges.

Warmest thanks to friends and Travel + Leisure readers for recognizing our efforts.  We look forward to building a legacy with you to ensure that nature and pristine wilderness are forever.

The Robb Report 100 Resorts

May 09, 2012 - Awards,Kruger National Park,Singita Grumeti

What we appreciate about the Robb Report 100 Resorts is that it is not a list of the most popular beach resorts and trendy retreats.  Actually popularity is not taken into consideration for the Robb Report 100.  Instead when the team at Robb Report is compiling their annual list they consult with trusted friends and associates in the luxury travel community and ask them to select their most favourite properties out of what they consider to be the most exceptional hotels and getaways in the world.  Unique villas in Italy and tucked away hideaways in the Maldives are a few of the gems that are included in this special portfolio.

This year we are honoured to be included in the Robb Report 100 Resorts – both of Singita’s properties in the Kruger National Park feature on the list and all of the lodges and camps at Singita Grumeti Reserves.  Scroll through the photos below and celebrate with us.

Globally Recognized

October 24, 2011 - Awards

From the desk of Luke Bailes, Singita’s Owner and Chief Executive Officer

The other day I was alerted to just how many awards Singita has won this year. Singita has never flaunted the awards it has received – in fact one of our guiding principles is humility. However it did occur to me that it is entirely due to our supporters and guests that we are being recognized for the incredible job our staff does, and for this reason I would like to thank everyone who has played a role in our success.

We have become globally recognized for the conservation work we are doing across the African continent. This has reached a point where, today, we are invited to participate in many conservation/tourism projects throughout the world.

Our warmest thanks for your support of and contribution to these prestigious accolades this year – some of them to note:

Tourism for Tomorrow Awards 2011 – No. 1 in Conservation, Singita Pamushana

Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2011 – No. 1 World’s Best Hotel, Singita Grumeti Reserves and No. 2 World’s Best Hotel, Singita Ebony and Boulders Lodges

Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Travel Awards 2011 – No.3 Best Hotel in the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Ocean, Singita Grumeti Reserves

World Luxury Hotel Awards 2011 – Best Luxury Lodge, Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Andrew Harper – No.5 Top International Hideaways , Singita Boulders Lodge

Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2011 – Singita Ebony and Boulders Lodges

Singita’s primary objective is to secure and protect large and threatened tracts of wilderness thereby ensuring sustainability and long term survival.

Wine on Safari

October 18, 2010 - Awards,Cuisine,Events,Experience

If you haven’t experienced ‘The Premier Wine Boutique’ on site at Singita Sabi Sand then you may not have known that Singita is recognised as one of South Africa’s most influential buyers of wine, with an extensive cellar showcasing a premium selection of wines, including some of the country’s most sought-after private reserves and limited release wines.

With a wine list that encompasses approximately 222 labels and just the South African Singita lodge cellars comprising 20 000 bottles, it can safely be said that wine is a key ingredient of the unique Singita experience. The Singita wine list has received numerous Awards of Excellence, the top Diners Club Wine List accolade as well as other significant local and international recognition.

What is extra special is that guests may experience a wine during their stay at Singita and want to use the services of Singita Premier Wine Direct to either take home ‘specially packed’ wine as ‘checked luggage’ or SPWD can assist to make up unique consignments to be freighted on a guest’s behalf.  The Singita collection of wines includes sought-after Exclusive Release, Limited Single Vineyard and Rare Auction Wines.

Whether guests are wine connoisseurs or just love wine they revel in the opportunity to enjoy personalised wine tastings within the unique ambience of each lodge’s own temperature-controlled cellar.  Singita’s experienced sommeliers are able to guide guests through a variety of wine styles, years and cultivars to sample those that may suit their taste.

Something that is extremely fulfilling for the Singita wine programme is that it gives back to the community too.  François Rautenbach heading up Singita Premier Wine Direct has embarked on a training programme for enthusiastic young wine lovers, and in doing so is developing the ‘next generation’ of Sommeliers for Africa providing educational assistance, personal mentoring, formal wine training and access to Africa’s Finest Wine program.
